About Us

History

This association began in the 1930’s when many German people came to Utah for religious purposes. The tightknit group of Germans desired to uphold their beloved traditions and relationships from their home country, so they established an organization called Chemnitzer Vereinigung. The name Chemnitz represents a city in East Germany, and Vereinigung is a German word meaning association or union. The Chemnitzer Vereinigung held various socials, community events, and service projects in an effort to provide and encourage good citizenship.

In 1935, the CV non-profit organization built a common bond of association with Utah First Credit Union serving those in need across the country with their shared philosophy of “people helping people.” Many years later, the organization simplified their name to Community Volunteers, and kept the CV initials to hold remembrance of Chemnitzer Vereinigung. Today, we continue in the effort of bettering the community through service projects, and events.

By joining the Community Volunteers, you are eligible to join Utah First Federal Credit Union and can enjoy the many benefits of membership.
